The Engineering Department is responsible for adding addresses for new customers and figuring out what type of services are available to them according to the distance they are from the nearest wire center. They are also responsible for calculating what it will take to get that service to the customer if cable isn’t existing. The Engineering Team spends countless hours assessing locations to figure out the best placement of the cable, drawing it up, and sending it to the contractor for construction. There are a lot of steps to get service to the customer and it takes a team of dedicated employees to make it all work. Katie has a hand in coordinating all of these steps!
This October Katie will celebrate 43 years as a Citizens Employee!
Katie says, “I have watched Citizens evolve from rotary dial phones and 3 party lines to Internet, video and fiber. I am so proud of what we have accomplished and have had the pleasure of working with some awesome people over the years, both employees and customers.”
What is your favorite thing about your home?
Everything, but a favorite spot is my sun room where I can enjoy my flowers and a wonderful view of our farm.
What’s a little known fact about you?
I lived in Heidelberg West Germany in the early 70’s with my husband James and son Jimmy. Jim was stationed there and worked at the 130th Station Hospital. It was an unforgettable experience.
What do you remember about your first job?
I worked as a Teachers Aide at Check Elementary School before coming to Citizens. I loved working with the children. It never crossed my mind that one day I might work with one of them. Trisha Poole was one of those students.
What is the secret to a good life?
Practicing the Golden Rule. “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you,” caring about your fellow man, and not putting your wants and needs above others.
