What is a little known fact about you?
I use fountain pens; I don’t know how much of a secret that is though. I enjoy the feel of the pen nib on the paper and the wide variety of inks. It may be a bit anachronistic for someone who works with computers all day to also use fountain pens, but I like them.
Are you into podcasts or do you only listen to music? What do you listen to and why?
I listen to a lot of podcasts, audiobooks, and music. I listen to a variety of podcasts, mostly informative but some comedic. With audiobooks it’s mostly science fiction and fantasy, but some other genre fiction mixed in as well. My musical tastes run the gamut; I will go through spells with particular types of music or artists and then move on to something completely different.
What is the secret to a good life?
I feel like at my age the best I can offer is a guess, maybe only a hint of a guess. Maybe that is all anyone can really give anyway. I think the secret to a good life, and I don’t think this is all that revolutionary of a line of thinking, is to try to live a life without regrets.
If you have the opportunity to do something interesting, go for it. You are more likely to regret not taking the chance, if only because you don’t know what the outcome would have been. By that same token, don’t dwell on missed opportunities too much either.
So I guess carpe diem, but don’t beat yourself up if you’re too tired sometimes? I don’t know, like I said, work in progress.
What was the last show you binge-watched? What made it interesting?
I haven’t finished it yet, but I have been working my way through Locke and Key on Netflix. It is a supernatural horror/drama with interesting characters. It’s based on the graphic novel series of the same name by Joe Hill, which I am also reading.
What do you remember most about your first job?
My first job was at a movie theater, and it may be a bit trite, but what I most remember about it is the people I worked with. The job was what it was, but there were a lot of fun and interesting people there and we enjoyed ourselves.
What makes you feel most alive?
Probably travel. I enjoy going to places, both new and familiar, though I don’t do it as frequently as I would like. Exploring a new city or experiencing a different culture makes me think about the world and my place in it.
