Citizens Awarded ARC Funding
In 2024, Citizens Telephone Cooperative (Citizens) completed a $40 million fiber-to-the-home project covering Floyd County, VA. Besides residential services, Citizens connects businesses and industrial parks in multiple counties in Southwest Virginia with a robust middle-mile fiber network.
Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine recently announced that Citizens Telephone Cooperative has now been awarded funding from the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) enabling the Internet company to expand the middle-mile fiber network. This project will encompass 26,400 linear feet of fiber to connect 285 businesses with up to 10 Gbps speeds. Citizens plans to bolster broadband connectivity in Grayson and Dublin Industrial Parks as well as in Blacksburg at the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center. We will continue to do just that with this funding to connect industrial parks and businesses allowing local companies to be more competitive, more productive, and expand jobs in the area.”
