Chelseah Hylton, Sales Consultant

Citizens’ employees have joined much of the world in working from home these last weeks during the Coronavirus pandemic, so we traveled to Chelseah’s front lawn (keeping our social distance) to capture her working from her front porch to keep you connected.

Chelseah is a problem solver. She spends her days answering questions and finding the best way to meet the technology needs of her customers. Chelseah enjoys the challenge of having to think outside the box. Her role as a Sales Consultant keeps her on her toes which she finds rewarding. She especially enjoys hearing from customers what a difference Citizens has made in their lives. Knowing she has helped families do the things they want to be able to do by connecting them to the world through the internet is one of Chelseah’s biggest motivators.

What is a little known fact about you?

I am a Certified Birth Doula and eventually plan to become a midwife. I have a fascination with birds – especially black birds. I’m also decent at Fortnite. There ya go. Three for one lol.

What is your favorite thing to do on your off time?

I love to workout in the gym or hike with my kids.

What is your favorite thing about your home?

It is close to the Blue Ridge Parkway and the views and sunsets from my home and adjoining properties are gorgeous. Plenty of room to explore with my kids and lots of wildlife roaming about.

How do you plan to use Volunteer Time Off?

Last year I volunteered with Plenty! This year I would love to help out at both Plenty! and The Perfect Gift Shop in Floyd where children can shop for their loved ones at Christmastime free of charge. This was my oldest son’s favorite part of Christmas this year. It is a wonderful program.

What is the scariest thing you’ve ever done for fun?

Probably hiking Devil’s Marble Yard near Natural Bridge, VA or hiking down from the Cascades in Giles County, VA during a flash flood.

Tell us about something on your bucket list. Why do you want to do that?

I want to go to New Zealand! I have wanted to make that trip since I first watched Lord of the Rings. So I have had my sights on New Zealand for over 10 years. By the photos and videos I’ve seen, it looks to be the most beautiful place on Earth.

What is the secret to a good life?

Having purpose and goals, taking time to acknowledge your accomplishments no matter how small, and being thankful.

What was the last show you binge-watched? What made it interesting?

The Goop Lab with Gwyneth Paltrow. (Netflix) It is all about alternative medicine and techniques for healing. Groups from The Goop Lab go and actually try these therapies and strategies out. They interview scientists and university faculty that are doing successful case studies. It was very worth watching.

Are you into podcasts or do you only listen to music?

I listen to many types of music but usually rap in the gym and a mix of alternative and today’s hits during everyday life. I almost always have something playing at home or in the office.

Tell us about a pet peeve you have.

Lying. It is my number one.

Have you ever disliked something and then changed your mind?

Cooked Onions.

What do you remember most about your first job?

I started working at Food Lion in Floyd when I was 15. I remember hating trying to keep a polo shirt tucked in and feeling like I paid everything I made back to the store in groceries I bought and what I ate on my lunch break lol. Minimum wage was lowwwwww.

What makes you feel most alive?

Educating and helping others feel empowered–whether it is for birth, wellness, or life in general.
