Citizens Telephone Cooperative was awarded funding from the NTIA to expand existing open-access
fiber in rural Virginia

In August, 2010, Citizens Telephone Cooperative was awarded funding from the NTIA to expand existing open-access fiber in rural Virginia, making affordable, high-speed broadband service a reality for underserved and unserved areas. At the same time the NITA awarded the The Center for Innovative Technology (CIT) funding to implement Virginia's broadband mapping initiative. CIT partnered with the Virginia Tech's eCorridors program to collect demand side Internet speed test data.

Citizens Telephone Cooperative supports Virginia's broadband mapping initiative and has contributed to the development of the eCorridors Accelerate Virginia speed testing survey and encourages customers to run a speed test at: www.acceleratevirginia.org/speedtest/.
